Renaissance Reunion
On 12th and 13th October hundreds of delegates from around the region joined Yorkshire Forward for the Renaissance Reunion event in Scarborough.
The event marked 5 years from the original renaissance conference in 2002.
Friday's event focused on renaissance across the region and was introduced by Janet Jefferson, Mayor of Scarborough and Tom Pindar, Chair of Scarborough Town Team. Terry Hodgkinson, Chair of Yorkshire Forward, looked back at the last 5 years of the renaissance programme and was followed by Jan Anderson, Executive Director of Environment, who looked at the future of renaissance. Delegates were then treated to the first public viewing of the Yorkshire Forward renaissance film, an educational and inspiring film about the methodology of renaissance and renaissance projects across the region.
In addition to the main event, the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) held design reviews on a number of Yorkshire Forward Renaissance Projects. This gave the public an opportunity to experience experts providing independent advice on schemes at an early stage.
There are six renaissance projects complete or on site in Scarborough, so after the conference, the delegates boarded open-top buses for a tour.
On Saturday, we held a public event that gave Scarborough's community an opportunity to have their say about the future of their town. We facilitated a programme of activity in the town to stimulate debate about the future of Scarborough and invited the community to contribute their ideas.
The reunion allowed contributors from our renaissance towns to meet in one room and share best practice and lessons learnt. The innovative tools used to stimulate ideas allowed us to capture over 1,350 pieces of key information. Importantly, the Renaissance Reunion highlighted the hard work that many people have put into the Renaissance Programme over the 5 years.
