Bridlington
Bridlington joined the renaissance programme in 2002 along with the second stage of renaissance towns.
The vision for Bridlington town centre is of a socially inclusive and economically viable town. Proposals include creating a clearer town centre; improving public spaces; improving the quality of services available and improving connections to the seaside. The vision also considers joining the town centre to the sea by changing public spaces and buildings along the harbour front and building a new marina.
In the vision for Bridlington the following projects have been identified:
- Bridlington Spa: improving the spa building to create a ‘state-of-the-art’ entertainments and conference facility.
- Town centre redevelopment: providing an improved retail offer and leisure, office and housing developments in the heart of the town centre.
- Harbour and marina development: a better harbour and potential new marina for the town that provides improved facilities for all harbour users, visitors and residents. This includes new public space and land-side development linked to the town centre.
- Urban realm: improvements to the public realm in key areas of the town centre including Crescent Gardens and Chapel Street.
- Business premises improvement grants: enhancing the offer of local business and the built environment through internal and external improvements and marketing/branding support.
- Carnaby Industrial Estate access road: increasing the availability of serviced land for business, enabling the expansion of local business and attraction of new investment into the town.
Yorkshire Forward will invest approximately £11m in the renaissance of Bridlington.
