Dearne Valley
Barnsley Dearne Valley (B.D.V), covering Bolton upon Dearne, Goldthorpe, Highgate and Thurnscoe, joined the RMT programme most recently in 2006. A strategic development framework has been developed centred around a vision of "best of town and country: an equitable, well connected community with vibrant local centres, excellent community services, quality green spaces with links to local environmental assets and a strong community spirit."
The Business Plan is currently being drafted due for completion in December 2007. The Business Plan contains the following Programme themes:
1) Best of Town
2) Best of Country
3) Community & Enterprise
4) Transport
The first projects are already being delivered, which include:
- The acquisition of the former Lacewood Primary School building, this will be the new home for Dearne Community Partnership and Dearne Valley Venture. It will enable them to share resources, develop more projects for the local community and generate more income.
- The compilation of a detailed masterplan for the development of Goldthorpe village centre, which is supported by Barnsley Council's Hosuing Market Renewal programme and Yorkshire Forward.
Yorkshire Forward has an indicative budget of £2,000,000 for the B.D.V Programme and is working closely with Barnsley Council's Housing Market Pathfinder Programme which has an indicative budget of £4,000,000 from April 2008 onwards. It is likely that the total investment in the B.D.V Programme will approach £10,000,000.
