Knaresborough

View of Knaresborough Viaduct and the River Nidd

Knaresborough joined the RMT programme in 2004 and has completed a delivery plan, which represents the aspirations of the town over the next 25 years. ‘Renaissance Knaresborough' was created from 2 existing partnerships and a number of themed groups were established to focus on specific issues, such as tourism and Knaresborough's arts sector. Knaresborough's main project is Improving The Offer - a joint project with Boroughbridge. This package includes a grant scheme aimed at enhancing vacant and poorly-used commercial sites in the town; running Welcome Host, hospitality and visitor management courses; and a number of enhancements to the town's key asset - its stunning riverside.

  • A public arts project "Town Windows" has been taken forward by Renaissance Knaresborough. The project has seen trompe l'oeil paintings by Knaresborough artists depicting aspects of Knaresborough's heritage being painted on various building's windows within the town. The project has identified further buildings with blind windows to be taken forward and Renaissance Knaresborough are also looking to promote the project more widely, including the production of a guide leaflet.
